The relationship between income and mortality is well established but remains poorly understood. The current notion about income and health status is that the wealthier a country is, the longer its citizens can expect to live because they will have easier access to appropriate healthcare. Suppose you want to examine whether higher income is associated with greater longevity using the World Bank Life Expectancy and Income data.
More specifically suppose you want to examine whether the income level of the countries can explain the differences in longevity in them.
Answer the following questions using the A6_Life_expectancy_WB.dta data.
a) Produce all descriptive statistics including histogram and boxplot when applicable for the following variables and comment on them in detail:
Income_Group: a nominal variable populated with the information about the income level of countries.
Life_Expect: a continuous variable that indicates the number of years a newborn infant would live if prevailing patterns of mortality at the time of its birth were to stay the same throughout its life.
b) Generate a table which show the mean, standard deviation, and the count for the life expectancy (Life_Expect) by income level (Income_Group). Format the table so that there is two digits to the right of the decimal point. Comment on the results.
c) If you want to examine whether the income level of the countries can explain the differences in longevity in countries, explain in detail what test you would need to use?
d) What is your research question? Write down all the necessary null- hypotheses you need to have. Explain what tests you need to run for each null-hypotheses.
e) Evaluate all your null-hypotheses using your Stata test results. Share all the results in your file along with the necessary Stata codes you have used to produce them.
f) Manually calculate the necessary test score and use it on a bell-shaped curve to evaluate your main null-hypothesis.
g) Calculate the effect size both manually and in Stata and compare them. Comment on the results. What does it mean in the context of this example?
h)Write a paragraph that would explain your findings to a technical audience.
